Listen to a New Unreleased Prince Song

A little over a year after his death, Prince’s label has released a previously unheard song from the Purple Rain era. The track, “Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden,” was recorded on Prince’s 26th birthday, June 7, 1984, just 18 days before the release of Purple Rain. He often combined “Our Destiny” and “Roadhouse Garden” while performing live, hence its release as a single track yesterday. “Our Destiny” features vocals from The Revolution’s Lisa Coleman, while “Roadhouse Garden” is drum-heavy dance tune.

It will be included in the Purple Rain reissue, arriving with Warner NPG/Warner Bros on June 23. Public battles between Warner Bros and Prince spanned the’90s, and the star kept many of his recordings vaulted away, out of reach of the label. The bonus disc of the reissue will include 11 unreleased songs.

Deliverance, a new EP set to release this year, was taken off of streaming services when Prince’s estate sued the engineer behind the project, claiming he was breaching a non disclosure agreement. Hopefully “Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden” will not meet a similar fate.
