Today, Father John Misty (AKA John Tillman) offered up a new track on Soundcloud—a follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2015 album I Love You, Honeybear, which Tillman is still promoting on tour. Titled "Real Love Baby," the song sees Tillman at his best: juxtaposing his signature soft-rock melancholy with catchy hooks and achingly sweet lyrics. The song leaves listeners wondering—as always—if the song's lovelorn intonation is genuine or a gag (it's this line that Tillman constantly treads that makes him such an interesting figure in pop).

The singer has become somewhat of a quietly ubiquitous presence in music this year, making appearances in Lana Del Rey music videos and scoring writing credits on Beyoncé tracks (he penned part of Lemonade's "Hold Up"). Earlier this week, he shared a Bruce Springsteen-esque demo that he claims to have written for a Toyota Prius commercial. With any luck, we'll only be seeing more of Tillman and his much needed sense of humor in the often too-serious music industry.
