The National Geographic Channel has announced plans to team up with musician and businessman Jay-Z and the Weinstein Company for a new docuseries.

The announcement made at National Geographic's upfronts yesterday revealed that the project, entitled Race, will be presented as a six-part docuseries with the aim to give “a stark and provocative look into systemic injustices in America,” and will have Jay-Z serve as executive producer. Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein Company, had this to say about the project, "National Geographic and Jay Z are the world’s foremost storytellers in their own right, and we’re thrilled to be working with them on such an evocative and meaningful project." Weinstein continued in adding, "By using highly cinematic storytelling techniques along with Jay Z’s singular point of view, the series will tell a dramatic, thought-provoking story on race in America."

The documentary is the third for the musician as his project Time: The Kalief Browder Story was also presented by the Weinstein Company, as well as the upcoming Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story set to be presented by Paramount Network.

Race is set to air on National Geographic in 45 languages and in 171 countries.
