With his Disney child-star and Hollywood hot head days over, Shia LaBeouf is set to take another leading role. The actor will play tennis legend, John McEnroe, in the upcoming biopic, Borg vs McEnroe. The movie will revolve around the iconic 1980 Wimbledon final—often called the greatest match of all time—Bjorn Borg versus John McEnroe. Swedish newcomer, Sverrir Gudnason, is set to play LaBeouf’s character’s rival, Bjorn Borg, while Stellan Skarsgård will play his coach, Lennart Bergelin.

The film will be directed by Janus Metz Pedersen, who directed the 2010 Cannes favorite Armadillo, as well as episodes of True Detective on HBO. Shooting will begin this fall, as the cast and crew will travel between Sweden, London, Monaco, and New York to film for the planned 2017 release date. Both LeBeouf and Gudnason are in Cannes to promote the film, as well as to premiere LeBeouf's latest film, American Honey on Sunday. Stay tuned for more news on the upcoming biopic.
