The long anticipated sequel to Prometheus, released in 2012, is hitting theaters next weekend — and it looks absolutely horrifying.

While its predecessors in the Alien saga conform more to the thriller genre, the latest trailer for Alien: Covenant suggests the new film verges goes even further into sci-fi horror territory. In the teaser we see a group of colonizers on their way to an uncharted planet in pursuit of a new start. It begins hopeful enough, but soon the travelers start to realize something is stirring on this mysterious planet. "The path to paradise begins in hell," flashes across the screen before a baby alien latches itself onto the face of Billy Crudup. From there the trailer devolves into sequences of crew members trying to save themselves from the franchise's now iconic lean-faced beast.

Alien: Convenant sees Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace reprising their roles from Prometheus. The rest of the cast includes Danny McBrideKatherine Waterston of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them fame, and briefly, James Franco.

The film is scheduled to release in theaters May 19. Watch the trailer below.
