Spooky season is upon us! Halloween means parties, bar hopping, and any excuse to get out and wear a costume, but at the end of the day is there really anything better than coming home and binging some classic scary movies? October is the perfect time to snuggle up with Halloween candy and give yourself a good scare. Here are twenty of the best movies to binge on this Halloween and where to stream them.

What’s creepier than a clown? A killer clown. Based on the hefty Steven King novel It and It Part 2 is a wonderful adaptation of the horror novel. Both movies are available on HBO Max and Netflix for streaming.

Suspense and not too scary, sometimes it’s great to watch something new. Netflix’s latest release Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is perfect for those who aren’t interested in the ultra-gruesome and prefer a dash of mystery and darkness instead.

 

3. Hocus Pocus

“A virgin lit the candle!” One of Disney’s very best and darkest is followed up by a dash of nostalgia in the newly released sequel Hocus Pocus 2. The witches are back. Watch the two movies back-to-back for a full dose of Disney Halloween Magic, available on Disney Plus. 

4. The Exorcist 

 

The classic in spooktacular movies set the bar for all possession movies to follow. The 1973 film set was rumored to be haunted. The Exorcist is available on HBO Max.

The perfect mix of chick flick and fall vibes. Sandra Bullock takes center stage as a witch who just wants to be in love but falls into mischief. Practical Magic is available on HBO Max.

One of Alfred Hitchcock’s best-known films, Psycho is a must-see when it comes to classic horror. A black-and-white film on a stormy October evening is just the way to go for scary movie fanatics. Psycho is available for purchase on Amazon. 

 

7. The Rocky Horror Picture Show

 

There’s no better excuse to wear some lipstick and leather. Get a group of your closest friends together and screen Rocky Horror for your own at-home Rocky Horror movie party!

8. The Nightmare Before Christmas

 

Another Tim Burton Classic that will sweep you away into a land of fantasy. Dany Elfman’s catchy music will have you singing along all evening. The Nightmare Before Christmas should count as both a Halloween and a Christmas movie, it is available on Disney Plus.

Everyone thinks their family is weird. Kooky, dark, and just a hint of camp The Addams Family is the perfect way to warm up a cold October night. A child-friendly Halloween movie that everyone loves, The Addams Family is the perfect way to pregame for Netflix’s new Wednesday Addams-inspired series premiering at the end of October. Say his name three times! It’s not spooky time without Tim Burton. Winona Rider is our favorite little goth in this weird, strange movie about the dead. Open up your Handbook for the Recently Deceased and enjoy the ride. Beetlejuice is currently included with HBO Max.

Hateful spirits, hauntings and ghost hunters are just the tip of the iceberg with this horror movie. Medium level horror, with all the scares and not too much gore the Conjuring is another good choice for a movie night in. It is currently available on Netflix.

Watch another throw-back favorite from the 70s. The Omen is another classic horror movie that is a must-see this time of the year. The original film long with the 2006 remake are available on HBO Max.

14. Little Shop of Horrors 

 

Halloween is all about the tricks and the treats. This plant is hungry for you, you snack you! Musical enthusiasts hunker down for a killer time. Little Shop of Hours is currently available on HBO Max.

Jordan Peele’s debut movie reinvented black horror for a generation. Everything is not what it seems. There are twists, laughs, and chilling turns that will give you the creeps.

It’s classic Y2K, Jennifer’s Body is arguably the horror/comedy of a generation. Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried have amazing chemistry. The 2009 flick is available on Amazon Prime. And yes, Megan Fox is a God.

Based on the real-life story of the famous Winchester mystery house, this scary movie is a classic haunted house flick. The actual Winchester Mystery House does Halloween candlelight tours, complete with a visit to the seance room. It’s all about the suspense. Don’t scream or they’ll come for you! Emily Blunt rocks out the silent role in a Quiet Place. Make it a two movie evening with parts one and 2 available on Prime Video.

20. Us

 

It’s so much creepier when you know the places in horror movies are, well, real places. Peele’s second horror movie about vengeful doppelgangers was shot in Santa Cruz California, a typically happy beach town known for its boardwalk and late-night bonfires. If you’ve ever stepped foot there this movie puts a usually sunny town into a whole new light.
