When one hears about sporting championships that end in "Cup", one's mind traditionally travels towards hockey, soccer or maybe even NASCAR. Well, times are changing. For the first time ever, players of the viral video game, Fornite, held theĀ  "Fortnite World Cup". The event was held over 3 days at Arthur Ashe Stadium and brought in over 1.3 million spectators on Twitch. Last night, the "Cup" culminated and crowned its winner. 16-year-old Kyle "Bugha" Griesdorf won ultimate bragging rights and another pretty cool prize: $3 million.

Yes, that's right. Griesdorf won e-sport's largest cash winning in its history. To make the Fortnite World Cup even more monumental, he wasn't the only one to leave a newly-minted millionaire. He wasn't even the only teenager: Jaden "Wolfiez" Ashman, 15, and Shane "EpikWhale" Cotton, 16 took home $1.125 million and $1.2 million, respectively. 13 year-old Thiago Lapp was the youngest top 5 winner, pulling in $900,000.

Clearly, the world of e-sports is growing to an unprecedented level. It's a new phenomenon - one that's very young and hard for a lot of people to understand, or even approve. If you aren't a fan of Fortnite, you have to at least understand why these kids are. Just imagine if you won $3 million at their age.
