A Documentary About Pete Buttigieg’s Presidential Campaign is Coming

Amazon Studios is taking the leap on the documentary titled “Mayor Pete”

Pete Buttigieg’s journey towards the presidency is now coming via a documentary from Amazon Studios. Mayor Pete, directed by Boys State creator Jesse Moss, will take viewers into Buttigieg’s Presidential campaign, as revealed in an exclusive by Variety.

Produced by Story Syndicate, the documentary aims to showcase Buttigieg on the campaign trail and his life with husband, Chasten. The mayor of South Bend, Indiana was the first openly gay candidate to seriously run for the presidency back in 2019.

After winning the hotly contested Iowa caucus and a strong showing at the New Hampshire primaries, Buttigieg’s streak ended after he started falling behind in the polls and eventually dropped out of the race to endorse Joe Biden, who eventually won the Presidential Election. Buttigieg became Biden’s U.S. Secretary of Transportation, becoming the first LGBTQ Cabinet member.

Moss previously directed last year’s Boys State with Amanda McBaine, which is on the Oscars documentary feature shortlist and won the Documentary Grand Jury prize at Sundance. Amazon Studios and Story Syndicate last worked together on the Stacey Abrams documentary All In: The Fight for Democracy, directed by Lisa Cortés and Liz Garbus. McBaine and Garbus are among the producers of Mayor Pete as well.
