Adam Driver Becomes a Centaur in New Burberry Campaign

The actor reprised his viral role as the face of Burberry Hero.

Almost a year after Adam Driver’s shirtless, equestrian Burberry Hero ad went viral, the actor (and the horse) are back as the faces of Burberry’s newest fragrance, the Hero Eau de Parfum.

The ad.

In the ad, Driver can be seen running into the ocean with said horse and frolicking in the water, before returning to land as a centaur. “Through the metaphor of a man becoming a mythical creature in the powerful and vivid sea, Burberry Hero illustrates the power of a man leaping into the unknown, overcoming overwhelming struggles, and transforming into something new, while remaining true to himself,” the brand said.

Directed by Jonathan Glazer and photographed by Mario Sorrenti, the campaign, much like the fragrance itself, builds upon the original Hero iteration. With a similar campaign concept and even the same song (“Two Weeks” by FKA Twigs), Burberry is harnessing the strength and soulfulness that made Driver a star. The campaign is “an embodiment of freedom, transformation, and masculine energy,” Burberry said in a statement. “An exploration of oneself and respect for the majesty of the natural world.”

The scent itself is strong and powerful, with notes of warm cedarwood, pine needles, and incense. “My inspiration for Burberry Hero Eau de Parfum was my memory of the Landes forest, where pine trees grow close to the ocean,” said Perfumer Aurélien Guichard. “For me, the sensual and crystalized resins included in the fragrance represent the power of reconnecting with your natural instinct.”

The bottle itself is modern and angular, representing an abstract reinterpretation of a horse’s hoof. It features an engraved monogram from Thomas Burberry, the founder of the house.
