Adidas Honors Japanese-German Relations with ZX 8000 “Kirschblütenallee” Shoes

Two new colorways pay respect to the cherry blossom tree’s significance.

Adidas dropped two updated iterations of the ZX 8000 silhouette as part of the “Kirschblütenallee” pack, a capsule that celebrates the history of Japanese-German relations. Japan raised over €1 million in 1990 to fund their planting of cherry blossom trees in Berlin for the Hanami/Yozakura festival. Aside from their beautiful appearance, the trees were a gift meant to signify the reunification of Germany after the fall of the Berline Wall. To this day, the Cherry Blossom Alley exists a physical manifestation of this cross-cultural gesture.

In honor of Germany and Japan’s long-standing relationship, Adidas released two new color ways that celebrate the cherry blossom’s significance. The “Hanami” iteration arrives in a light pink overtone with subtle hints of red, revering the color of the blossom, while the “Yozakura” sneaker boasts a grey color palette with pink undertones, paying respect to the blossoms in the evening. On top of the updated coloring, both models feature Berlin and Tokyo lace jewels, Sakura tongue detailing and checkered in-soles.

Both shoes will launch on HANON on March 13. Until then, explore the “Kirschblütenallee” pack in the slideshow, below.
