Adidas and SPEEDFACTORY are presenting an exclusive interactive experience in Brooklyn  to accompany their new AM4NYC shoes. Introduced in 2015, the SPEEDFACTORY pilot facility in Germany uses state-of-the-art technology and automated manufacturing to bring innovation and production faster and closer to the consumer. In 2017, the second SPEEDFACTORY model opened in Atlanta to consider the US athlete, based on which the AM4NYC was born.

The AM4 city series utilizes precise digital data technology to analyze gait and natural running movements, as well as localized social insights, to develop the ideal shoe for respective cities. Following the AM4LDN, AM4PAR, and AM4LA 747 releases from 2017, the AM4NYC’s research found that NYC runners are more intense, covering longer distances with higher speed. The acquired data drove the design elements of AM4NYC to provide more cushioning in the forefront of the shoe to lighten the impact of the stride, while the extra eyelet for the shoelace close to the metatarsal bones provide extra stability to round corners, change direction, and support sudden brakes as NYC runners navigate their runs through the urban jungle.

In contrast, the AM4LDN team found that many Londoners get running in during their commute, speaking to the cosmetic colorways of AM4LDN. It was important for UK runners to have highly visible sneakers with reflective details for the morning and night. And because it rains more often in London, it informed the outsole of the shoe since the ground is often damp. Although the silhouette of each AM4 city series is taken from the pioneer design concept of M.F.G (Made for Germany) model, each nuanced detail of a city lifestyle is considered for the AM4 series.

VP Design for Adidas Ben Herath says, “The AM4NYC shoe demonstrates the potential of adidas SPEEDFACTORY to set a new benchmark for performance products by using an advanced digital and data-driven processes, and bringing in local runners to be a part of this future of footwear creation."

The SPEEDFACTORY Lab experience is open to the public until tomorrow, Friday, April 27, 2018 at Brooklyn Bridge Park on11 Water Street. AM4NYC launches today and will be available at Adidas’ NYC 5th Avenue Flagship and adidas.com starting today. Take a peek at the new experience and AM4NYC shoes below.
