Adidas Releases Second Drop of The Blue Version SS22 Collection

The athleisure-wear brand takes a different design direction for the second Blue Version collection.

It was fall 2021 when adidas first introduced the world to their first release of the Blue Version Collection. Just as the name of the collection states, the collection was filled with different variations of blue that evoked a new meaning for the brand. To some, blue reflects a feeling, an emotion or a moment, but for adidas, the color represents so much more. An ode to their trademark color, bluebird, the Blue Version was created in celebration of the adida’s history, and to evolve their current and archival fashion lines.

Last season’s collection consisted of a unique interpretation of outerwear and athleisure. Trench coats had the iconic adidas’ stripes on the sleeves; trousers resembled sweatpants; tracksuits that hugged the body; corsets that fit under the bust; and duffles bags meshed with two contrasting materials together. But despite these styles being different to what we expect from adidas, it still had their well-known brand code: the Three Stripes.

Spring/Summer 2022 takes a different design direction, using multiple convergent narratives, “tied together with a cross-seasonal Blue Thread.” Apparel and accessories are elevated to reimagine adidas’ archival looks, making them “carefully calculated” and “viscerally evocative” to reflect key moments from the brand’s late 20th century collections. The Three Stripes are seen on vintage sponsorship graphics with distorted visuals that are perfectly imperfect with past printing techniques. Artistic prints and techniques are also a major component of the collection, being on select pieces, ranging from sweatshirts to leggings, that feature aquarelle watercolors “aired with satin fabrics, plissé construction, and expressive draping.”

The second drop of the adidas second Blue Version Collection is available globally on April 13th on adidas’ website, adidas flagship stores and a select retailer.
