Alonzo Vega Awakens A New Consciousness In Contemporary Art

Meet Peru’s New Phenom In Contemporary Art

There are very few mediums which portray a humanizing or uplifting side to conflict or the act of war.

Naturally, nothing is more devastating and cruel or does more incalculable harm.

However, in rare circumstances, the purity of fighting to overcome tyranny, oppression, and evil should be recognized and remembered in order to truly appreciate what we have now.

Such is the operating psychology behind the daringly brash works of contemporary artist Alonzo Vega.

In his media, Alonzo utilizes the raw products and instruments of warfare- such as bullets, guns, shell cases, and shrapnel- to create evocative and charged depictions of everything from contemporary life, pop culture iconography, and human interaction- in order to reawaken our consciousness of how much blood was spilled for the life we live and how things could have turned out unrecognizably different.

Inspired by the heroism of his great grandfather, General Harold Lee George- an American War Hero during World War II who was commemorated with one of Time Magazine‘s most historic covers, Vega is on a mission to infuse bold contemporary art with meaning, passion, and  consciousness of value.
