Amiri’s Fall/Winter ‘21 Collection Celebrates Downtown LA

The new menswear collection pays homage to the cultural history of the iconic Los Angeles area where the label was first established.

Amiri’s new menswear collection is here and it is all about Downtown Los Angeles: the Fall/Winter 2021 line celebrates the cultural history of the arts and fashion-centered area where Mike Amiri first conceived the label fifteen years ago and where he established his first studio in 2009.

The line was unveiled on Wednesday with a dynamic video set on the city’s 4th Street Bridge. Directed by Cara Stricker, the short film sees models moving on the bridge as the sky colors and lights change – channeling the spirit of the collection, which was inspired by the city’s lively “dawn ‘til dusk” energy. For the soundtrack, Amiri curated four tracks by the legendary hip hop group The Roots.

The palette is predominantly made of earthy tones, along with black, alabaster, and darker shades of blue. Silhouettes include flare pants with slit details at the hem, slim cuts, and voluminous, structured coats and jackets – styled in the ‘70s and ‘80s-inspired looks.

Amiri presents a variety of textures, mixing brushed mohair, cashmere, organza, faux-fur, leather, and lurex. Outerwear includes a fluffy faux-fur coat and vinyl-looking trench coats. Shirts come with sharp collars and some feature highlighted lining and embroidered details.

Some of the designs feature sparkling elements, such as the black sweater embroidered with Swarovski crystals that almost look like they’re dripping from the collar towards the bottom.

Playful motifs are spread throughout the collection in items such as a comedy-and-tragedy masks knit sweater, a hearts shirt, and a piano-printed shirt with music notes.

A section is specially dedicated to games, with a backgammon-patterned cardigan, chessboard sweater, and pool marble balls knit along with an eight-ball-shaped bag. Hand-painted motifs further celebrate DTLA nightlife, including a shirt with retro-looking imagery of the same bridge.

Other accessories include geometric sunglasses – the Honeycomb – and gold chains that are styled by every model either as necklaces or hanging on their pants.

For footwear, sneakers are the classic choice for comfort: the collection presents Amiri’s new model The Stadium, along with the brand’s signature Skel-Toe shoes.
