Following the success of his first European exhibition with Maddox Gallery in 2019, LA-based and contemporary artist Lefty Out There announces his latest show, Vivus II, with the gallery’s London location. 

Pushing the boundaries of street art, Lefty is known for working in contradictions, creating intuitive, repeated shapes that are considered bold, intricate and complex as a whole. His art was first born on Chicago’s walls, but soon gained recognition by fine art galleries, interior designers, fashion brands, including adidas, and the digital realm. His squiggles and marks are his signature spontaneous pattern, resembling cell structures and organisms that make the viewer wander and create their own interpretations. But most of all, Lefty’s art calls for audiences “to pay attention to things that they take for granted,” especially in the wake of today’s time. 

His latest body of work is no different than what we expect from the artist, embracing his familiar bold and intricate designs, but with a slight distinctive shift. Created during the global pandemic, Vivus II is a visual representation of the world we live in today. It fuses the street art Lefty is known for with optical illusions, creating “a jarring intensity that reflects ongoing universal tensions.”

Separated into two distinct bodies of work, the show consists of one portion being a kaleidoscopic mesh of color while the other,”a powerful meditation on monochromatic art.” Both series, despite their visual differences, will combine Lefty’s polymorph forms with geometric shapes to create a more liberating yet overwhelming alternate universe throughout the Maddox’s flagship location. Every surface will be enveloped by this design, promoting an immersive nature of the exhibition that will force viewers to step outside of their comfort zone and disconnect from reality. All of which will pay ethos to the artist’s style of “cover everything.”
