How does the dynamic change when you’re performing and recording solo, versus performing and recording with the A$AP Mob?

The difference is when I’m recording by myself, I’m just in my mind and in my own head. I second-guess things. When I’m with the A$AP Mob, I’ve got other opinions. You have other people who will tell you “that’s dope, let's run with that” or “nah don’t do that again.” You have more of a community that helps you shape and mold the sound.

Who or what influences your music most? “Tango” seemed very inspired by personal experiences.

"Tango" is one of the songs off the album that really was a song from experience. I’ve been gone for so long so I felt like I really wanted to put out a song where my fans could know what I was up to and how I’ve been feeling.

Can you tell us a bit about your denim collaboration with AGOLDE?

It basically started last year. This is my second collaboration with them. We basically took my silhouette of denim that I love and duplicated them, made different colors and added some different embellishments with it. I got my own buttons made, got the right zippers. It’s inspired by late 70’s early 80’s, my pops and his friends back in the days. It has a very vintage, authentic feel to it with a very contemporary embellishment finish.

How would you describe your personal style?

However I feel. I could be futuristic in the eyes of the person in the 70’s. You know how Missy used to wear metallics, Airmax's, and jumpsuits? “Mo Money Mo Problems” is perfect for what I’m trying to explain. I like to take eras and kind of mash them up. Mix the Renaissance with the future.

Most treasured item in your wardrobe?

My new Adidas sneakers.

Can you tell us a bit about the process of creating your upcoming mixtape “Still Striving?"

The process is basically allowing yourself to be free. A mixtape is supposed to be a mixture of your emotions and your art so I just took this as a chance to unleash all different artistic emotions and just have fun and collaborating with my friends and artists that I love.

In what ways do you think your forthcoming album differs from your last, “Always Strive and Prosper?"

I took a different approach. The last album was very documentative and its talks about my trials and tribulations and how I always strived and finally prospered. Now it's about having fun. This album is really about fun.

What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Don’t give a fuck about what anyone else says.

What’s one goal you hope to accomplish in the next year?

Be colossal.
