When casting the role of Elvis, the 20th century's original heartthrob, it's only fitting that another heartthrob play the iconic musician. Full details are yet to be announced, but it's been confirmed that Disney alum/stage actor Austin Butler will play Elvis in the upcoming biopic. It’s rumored that Butler beat Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller to the part.

The biopic is being written and directed by Baz Luhrmann, the talent behind Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, and camp classic Strictly Ballroom. Following the huge success of recent musical biopics (Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody) the upcoming flick promises to be another huge hit. Full details are yet to be disclosed, but it’s believed that the story will focus on the complicated relationship between Presley (Austin Butler) and his manager.

With a career spanning almost three decades, Elvis starred in 34 movies, scored 18 Number Ones, and pulled off a successful comeback. Presley is credited as the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music.

With his trademark pompadour, gyrating hips and brooding good looks, Elvis made everybody weak at the knees. In 1967, the 31 year-old heartthrob married 21 year-old Priscilla Wagner (Presley). They couple remained married for 6 years and Priscilla become an icon in her own right. With her black beehive, thick lashes and winged eyeliner, she’s adored by the fashion world.

Elvis was an entertainer whose personal sense of style influenced and inspired so many. It seems only fitting that visuals-sensitive Luhrmann will be behind the film.
