Backstage at Vetements Fall/Winter 2020

New leadership, same signature look.

Although the resignation of previous creative director Demna Gvasalia left the maison in a state of limbo, Vetements’ commitment to exquisite craftsmanship certainly remains intact. As the release of cartoon phone cases and an entire Stars Wars collaboration proved to be major successes, the Switzerland-based design house held themselves to the same standard with their first official ready-to-wear collection without Gvasalia.

Featuring sharply-cut blazers, intricate down jackets, provocative t-shirts, and floral dresses, the collection is classic Vetements. This time around, the fashion label played with proportions, as shoulders were boxed, rounded, and accentuated to coin a new staple look. Parkas parodied The North Face logo with text reading “VETEMENTS LIMITED EDITION” and oversized puffers featuring the brand’s signature phrase “SECURITY”. Entering a new era of leadership, the highly-coveted streetwear brand did not fail to impress.
