Bad Bunny Plays Marvel’s First Latino Superhero

The musician is set to play El Muerto in a stand-alone Marvel movie for Sony.

Bad Bunny has been taking over the Latin music world. The Puerto Rican rapper is a platinum-selling artist and a Grammy award winner. Now, he steps outside the music world and into the movie world as he becomes Marvel’s first Latin superhero.

In a new initiative to diversify their universe, Marvel looks to incorporate different backgrounds into their stories. With this agenda in mind, Sony announced at CinemaCon that Bad Bunny will star in their new film El Muerto

El Muerto follows the story of Juan Carlos, a wrestler with superpowers. Carlos gets stung by a paralyzing poison after he almost unmasks Spider-Man in a wrestling match. When his oppressor, El Dorado, comes to claim his life, Carlos teams up with Spider-Man to take El Dorado down.

Following the announcement of Madame Web, the first Spider-Man film to feature a woman, Sony continues to diversify the Spider-Man storyline with this new title. The film is a direct result of Sony’s interest in the musician himself. Bad Bunny grabbed Sony’s attention due to his role in Bullet Train. When approached with the opportunity to star in a Marvel film, Bad Bunny took it upon himself to find the perfect Latin character to portray. He went to the Sony executives with the idea for El Muerto and thus the partnership was born.

A release date has not been announced, but Sony hopes to move quickly through the process as Bad Bunny is currently touring and has prior acting commitments.

For now, fans can expect to see the musician star in Bullet Train, Narcos: Mexico, and Cassandro
