Balenciaga’s Next Generation of Speed Trainers

Introducing Balenciaga Speed Trainer 2.0

Balenciaga released the second generation of their iconic Speed Trainer sneaker line this week.

Speed 2.0 arrives with a whole host of modifications targeted at the sneaker’s overall comfort and agility. Its flexy-functional sole combined with a comfortable grip around the wearer’s ankle produce an updated sneaker that bonds closer to the anatomy of a foot than Balenciaga’s first edition.

Designed by Demna Gvasalia, Speed 2.0 provides additional support and flexibility without omitting the original design’s strength. The sneaker’s triple arch and 3D-knit upper sock provide firm support throughout the shoe while maintaining an overall feeling of marshmallow-lightness.

Speed 2.0 was introduced last year along with the Balenciaga Summer 2020 collection. The sneaker echoes the Summer 2020 collection in its sleek design and attention to detail. A number of sneakers were styled with Balenciaga’s Summer 2020 collection last year, but no sneaker received more buzz than the premiere of the Speed Trainer 2.0.

The first Speed Trainer, debuting in 2016, was an immediate success among designer sneaker enthusiasts. A number of celebrities, including a few Kardashian-Jenners, heavily supported the brand’s release. The shoes were flying off shelves so quickly that retailers couldn’t keep the sneaker in stock.

Celebrated for its designer but comfortable sock-style, the shoe has become an iconic industry leader in pull-on trainer sneakers. Vogue hailed Balenciaga’s original release of the sneaker as “the shoe of 2017.”

Speed Trainer 2.0 comes in four different colors including an original black-and-white, a triple black pair, gray and tan. Balenciaga’s starting price for the traditional Speed Trainer 2.0 is $825 USD.
