Move over, Coachella: Balmain's latest show, Balmain Men's SS20, brought its own festival-esque vibe. Headlining the event was former Glee star, actor Darren Criss and British band Years and Years. In place of a traditional runway was a Balmain music stage. Creative Director Olivier Rousteing invited over 1,500 additional guest who were offered free tickets via a random lottery draw. He partnered with AIDS charity (RED) and proceeds from exclusive Balmain merchandise went to the cause.

The collection opened with a range of all-white outfits. Looks gradually morphed into silver with plastic and mirrored fabrications. Rousteing then offered a contemporary take on double denim, pale with an eighties silhouette. The eighties inspiration was seen throughout the entire collection, but Rousteing also offered his vision for the future. Many pieces looked like his take on what clothes would be in 60 years' time. The Balmain logo t-shirt was reinvented for this season with its own eighties twist.

Square shoulders with slim waists were a favored silhouette, especially with tuxedo jackets. The tuxedo looks came in a variety of fabrications: some were teamed with matching shorts and paired with iridescent items.

The show progressed with a sherbet palette and candy colors, with stripes and solids providing plenty of options. The approach to smart tailoring was youthful, with relaxed cuts and easy styling. Slouchy pants were worn with built-in cummerbunds, another nod to the eighties yet reiterated for a modern man.

Rousteing nailed outerwear; he showcased bomber jackets, trench coats, and biker jackets creating some of the standout pieces from this season. The show closed with a range of black and white looks, polka-dot, stripes and some solids.
