Although they are still in their infancy, helicopter-sharing applications, such as BLADE, are following the example set by popular ride-sharing apps like Uber. Serving an elite clientele, BLADE allows Manhattan hot shots and high-fliers to book quick trips from New York to the Hamptons, Boston, Nantucket, Atlantic City or the Jersey Shore and vice versa.

After success in 2015, BLADE is now continuing—and expanding upon—its private jet service between New York City and Miami. Dubbed “BLADEone,” it allows passengers to book one of 16 available seats on a Bombardier CRJ 200, a commercial jetliner originally built for 60 that has now been retrofitted for a more luxurious and roomy trip. VieVité rosé is served by the glass, and flight attendants are particularly smartly-dressed in uniforms designed by Cynthia Rowley and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The service re-commenced in December 2016, at the start of Art Basel, and will continue through April. A weekend jaunt to South Beach runs for $1,795, which may sound steep but is an appreciable mark-down from last year’s cost of $2,250. There are no hidden membership fees, and, naturally, the trip includes all manner of five-star perks.

Passengers check in and land at well-appointed BLADE lounges, which have cocktail service and none of the chaotic shuffle of JFK or MIA. Once in Miami, BLADEone passengers who purchased two round-trip tickets are taken by ground transportation to the trendy Faena Hotel Miami Beach, where they will have complimentary accommodation for the weekend—from arrival on Friday to departure on Sunday. On holiday weekends, an additional third night—more time for dining at the hotel’s two oceanside restaurants or rejuvenating at its holistic spa—is thrown in free of charge.

If Miami is not of interest, then shorter helicopters trips, like from New York City to the Hamptons for $695/seat, are now available. Otherwise, BLADE users can “crowdsource” their own helicopter or jet through the service, chartering a private flight to anywhere they need to be.
