Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak Release First Single as Silk Sonic
The duo’s forthcoming album has a stamp of approval from Bootsy Collins.
It’s hard to imagine anyone with more effortless cool than Bruno Mars or Anderson .Paak, so a collaboration between the two of them is bound to be as smooth as silk – hence the name of their duo, Silk Sonic. The name was chosen by Bootsy Collins, who couldn’t have been more spot-on; their sound is luscious and classic, with R&B harmonies and Anderson .Paak’s legendary drumming-while-singing abilities on full display.
The first single, “Leave the Door Open,” debuted with an accompanying music video that shows Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak jamming in a recording studio. The video opens with a reel-to-reel tape recorder, setting the tone for a retro studio session. The whole band plays together, capturing the energy of live performance that fans are craving. “Leave the Door Open” will feature on the duo’s full-length album, called An Evening With Silk Sonic, arriving later this year. The release also includes an intro track featuring “master of the universe” Bootsy Collins, whose glowing introduction builds anticipation for the arrival of the band’s first album.
It’s the kind of collab that just makes perfect sense, especially considering that the artists already linked up for Mars’ 24K Magic world tour in 2017. Watch the video for Silk Sonic’s first single below:
