Barnabé HARDY TRACKS THE URBAN ADVENTURER IN DEBUT COLLECTION FOR CARVEN

Text: Erica Russell

For Barnabé Hardy’s debut collection at French label Carven, the designer—who was appointed as the brand’s menswear designer earlier this year following the release of his own collection back in 2009—presents a S/S '16 collection rife with cosmopolitan flair and contradicting aesthetic sensibilities: light and dark; landscape and cityscape. Classic garments like a smoking jacket, tailored trousers, and fitted knitwear all receive a subtle adventurous update with modern fits, lively prints, and gingko leaf motifs—the Chinese botanical of which so happens to be Hardy’s personal lucky charm.

To project the metro-masculine energy of the collection into the “real world,” the brand has also released a special campaign short which tracks the quintessential Carven man and urban adventurer—portrayed with both brooding and playful energy by model Jester White—through the streets of Beaugrenelle, a district of Paris. Wandering the sundrenched boulevards of the city, our young metropolitan encapsulates the spirit of the label in all its dichotomous glory: bold yet elegant, forward-thinking yet classic.
