Let's start with a classic. Refreshing and light, a perfect margarita uses four simple ingredients — don't even think about picking up that sour mix.

1.5 oz. tequila

1 oz. orange liqueur (Think Cointreau or Triple Sec)

0.5 oz. simple syrup or agave

0.5 oz. lime juice

Passionfruit Margarita

Stylish as always, cocktail aficionado Hannah Chamberlain adds a tropical hit of passionfruit to level up her margarita recipe. Ditch the bottled lime juice for this one — it has to be fresh!

2 oz. reposado tequila

1 oz. passionfruit liqueur

1 oz. fresh lime juice

Passionfruit to garnish

Cucumber Watermelon Margarita

If you close your eyes, this cooling drink will transport you to a balmy summer day. Make sure to rim your glasses with chamoy paste and tajin for a kick of heat.

Ingredients (makes two drinks):

1/3 small watermelon

1/2 cucumber

4 limes

Splash of triple sec

2 shots tequila per person

The margarita's slightly pinker sister swaps orange liqueur for fresh grapefruit juice and club soda for a breezy, effervescent drink.

1.5 oz. tequila

1.5 oz. fresh grapefruit juice

1 tsp. sugar

1/2 lime, juiced

2 oz. sparkling water

Step aside, mimosa — this breakfast margarita is about to become your new favorite brunch cocktail. Fun, right?

3/4 oz. lime juice

2 oz. tequila

0.5 oz. triple sec

1 spoonful orange marmalade

Blackberry Thyme Margarita

Juicy berries and thyme syrup give this drink a classy twist. Make the syrup at home by simmering fresh thyme sprigs with equal parts sugar and water for 15-20 minutes to add a delicious herbal flavor to your cocktails.

2 blackberries

3/4 oz. thyme syrup

1 oz. lime juice

3/4 oz Cointreau

2 oz. tequila blanco

Spicy Mezcal Margarita

This cocktail is not for the faint of heart. Turn up the heat with this smokey, spicy variation of a margarita, swapping tequila for mezcal and adding hot pepper.

1 small chili pepper

0.5 oz. agave

1.5 oz. mezcal

1 oz. orange liqueur

0.75 oz. lime juice
