Celebrities Take to Social Media to Demand Justice for Breonna Taylor
“Arrest the cops who killed #BreonnaTaylor”
Jordan Peele, Ava DuVernay, Seth Rogan, and more are demanding justice for Breonna Taylor and calling for the arrest of the three police officers that murdered her in March.
Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was killed in her home on March 13 after Louisville Metro police officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove shot her eight times during an attempted drug sting. Taylor’s mother, Tamika Palmer, paid tribute to her daughter on Good Morning America, describing her as “full of life” and able to “light up a room.”
Many celebrities have been vocal about demanding justice for Taylor. On June 7th, Jordan Peele tweeted, “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor,” which has since been retweeted by 160K times. Ava DuVernay, Gabrielle Union, Taika Waititi, Seth Rogan, Kumail Nanjiani, and others tweeted out the same message.

Taylor’s murder has received attention on a global scale since the beginning of protests surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement. Thousands have paid tribute to Taylor on what would have been her 27th birthday on June 5th, using the hashtag #SayHerName and supporting the #BirthdayForBreonna campaign launched to support Taylor’s family and prosecute the officers involved in her killing.
Other celebrities including Kim Kardashian West, Ariana Grande, and Kerry Washington have also used their platform to bring awareness to Taylor’s murder, urging their followers to support Taylor’s campaign. The “Justice for Breonna Taylor” fund has currently raised over $5.5 million for the family.

Two months after Taylor was killed, her family filed a wrongful death lawsuit. On May 21st, the FBI’s Louisville office opened an investigation surrounding Taylor’s death. The police officers still remain on administrative leave and have yet to be charged.
