Can "Big B's" bring big business?

While SoundCloud is scrambling to cut costs and keep afloat, Chance the Rapper and Young Thug have released a single exclusively on the platform, with lyrics celebrating big business and the money success brings. "Big B's" is available on Chance's SoundCloud account, and is one of the first public collaborations between the two since Coloring Book's popular "Mixtape". Both stars are known for spontaneity and surprise releases.

The single's cover art references an age of internet culture, new forms of communication, SoundCloud itself, and the hugely important role of technology in creating and showcasing today's music. The verses which are loose and casual places emphasis on consumerism and its connections to luxury goods and fashion. In the second verse, Chance raps "bought a baby Benzo and some Kenzo just for Kensli," Kensli being his one year old daughter. It sounds less engineered than some of Chance's recent tunes, but, even at his most relaxed, the rapper still delivers lines with intense interest and balance.

SoundCloud laid off 40% of its staff earlier this month, and announced that it had enough money to survive about another two months, if that. It is unclear what would happen to the hundreds of thousands of audio hours hosted on the website's servers if it were to fold, or what platform could rival its popularity, size, democratic nature, and versatility. It's hard to imagine where else "Big B's" and a teenager's sample remixes could thrive alongside each other, discoverable by all.

Fingers crossed Chance the Rapper and Young Thug's support helps to sway investors. Listen to the track below.
