In a frigid winter where most cold-ready outerwear tends to be repetitive and mundane, Alessandro Sartori's technicalwear focused label Z Zegna offers something truly inventive for FW18. The mountaineering-inspired collection finds its roots in Oasi Zegna, the lush nature preserve created in the gateway to the Italian Alps by Ermenegildo Zegna himself.

The rich pine, crocus, chanterelle, slate, and berry red tones found in Zegna's mountain oasis are translated into functional, yet infinitely wearable outerwear enhanced by textures and graphics typical of Northern European cultures. The pieces blend time-tested tailoring fits and patterning with bright, oversized puffers and accessories to create a look that's classically handsome, but pushes towards the future of menswear. All while keeping things cozy enough to brave the winter winds on the peaks of the Italian Alps, of course.

Highlights here include bouclé and tweed topcoats with eye-catching texture, utilitarian tapered-suiting cut from technical wools, smart trousers equipped with cinch buckles instead of bottom cuffs, and most notably, quilted puffers used on everything from vivid parkas and ski pants to face-covering headgear and even oversized scarves. This makes for a forward-thinking winterwear collection that's somehow classically Italian, '80's retro, and entirely original at the same time.
