Coldplay Drops Two Hard-Hitting Tracks Ahead of Their Highly-Anticipated Album

“Daddy” and “Champion of the World” come before the British rock band’s studio album Everyday Life.

Just last month, Coldplay announced their grand return to the music scene, and now, just one day before the release of their upcoming album Everyday Life, the British rock band dropped two tracks. “Daddy” and “Champion of the World” set a tone of authenticity for the forthcoming setlist with powerful messaging and emotional, hard-hitting lyrics.

“Daddy” comes with an animated video created by Aardman Animations and directed by Åsa Lucander that certainly makes a large impact. Among falsified waves and stormy weather, a young girl is lost at sea in search of her lost father. “Daddy, are you out there? Daddy, why’d you run away? Daddy, are you okay?” Chris Martin sings as the young girl plunges into the ocean and rides on the back of a blue whale. The scene fades to dark as the girl lies seemingly defeated in the boat until a light encapsulates the frame and visuals of the girl’s hand meeting a larger, fatherly hand culminate in the final scene. A compelling melody, “Daddy” tells a touching story that’s sure to leave a lasting impression.

In contrast to the somber soundtrack of “Daddy”, “Champion of the World” supplies an uplifting and inspirational cadence along with its empowering message. Co-written by Frightened Rabbit’s Scott Hutchinson, the track holds indie undertones and an unanticipated melodic construction. “Scott had a song called ‘Los Angeles Be Kind,’ which I love,” Chris Martin claimed in a statement. “When I first heard it, I thought it was going to go one way; but it went another. Anyway ‘Champion of the World’ is the song that came from following the other path, and that’s why Scott is a co-writer on this song. Today is also his birthday. So happy birthday Scott and thank you for your beautiful music, wherever you are.”

As Coldplay’s album Everyday Life drops tomorrow, the British rock band just announced that they won’t be going on tour with their latest track set until they find a sustainable method to do so. A necessary statement for environmental health, fans are glad to wait in support of the band’s stance of sustainability. Until then, bask in the rock band’s two latest singles in the videos below.
