Converse Has Completely Reimagined Their Iconic Weapon Basketball Sneaker

This new drop from Converse brings us a brand new imagining of their iconic Weapon basketball sneaker that has given the iconic silhouette a modernized upgrade.

With their newest release, mainstay sneaker brand Converse has sought to bring their iconic 80s classic shoe, the Converse Weapon, into the twenty-first century. The basketball shoe will be reimagined, introduced to us now as the Weapon CX. The shoe’s transformation aims to “pay homage to the past while taking a bold step into the future,” as was stated by a press release for the release.

The Weapon sneaker looks to toe the line between fashion and function. For fans of the original, don’t fret. The modernization will retain the Y-Bar and Star Chevron branding of the classic 80s sneaker. It’ll upgrade the original by adding a much-thicker midsole, made of Converse’s signature CX foam. It’s an incorporation of the “elevated footwear profiles seen on today’s runways.” It’s an interesting blend of runway-ready streetwear trends and the athletic necessities to create a functional basketball shoe that’ll improve your performance on the courts. It’s lightweight with a chunky look, a nice meld of those two seemingly-contradictory sneaker ideals.

The upgrade is the latest installment in the new Converse CX series. The line aims to celebrate Converse’s storied history while also modernizing their most classic styles for a younger consumer base to call the brand their own. By taking older styles and completely transforming their classic silhouettes, the brand is taking these shoes into the twenty-first century, prioritizing a healthy balance between contemporary designs and maximum comfort.
