Dior’s Fall 2021 Collection Bends Reality

The cartoonish collection is in collaboration with artist Kenny Scharf.

Take a break from reality and step into the hyperpop world of Dior’s Fall 2021 collection. The zany installment recruits the artistic prowess of painter Kenny Scharf, marrying his vivid dreamlike designs with Dior’s esteemed tailoring, designed by Kim Jones.

A hypnotic array of acid-bright patterns make their way onto Dior’s sleek pieces, lending eye-popping details to beaded berets, mock-neck undershirts, straight-legged trousers, and otherwise subdued outerwear. Even the iconic saddle bag gets a surreal makeover, embellished with seed-stitched embroidery of the abstract art prints in candy colors. Each statement piece is offset by luxe separates and sharp-shouldered suits.

The cartoonish elements of Scharf’s artwork is mirrored by the campaign’s endearing quirk, captured by Rafael Pavarotti. Swirling backdrops and jaunty posing lend to the collection’s playful, eccentric atmosphere.

For the collection’s reveal, Dior creates a bent reality with filmmaker Jason Yan Francis. Scharf’s dizzying sketches jump off the drawing paper and give an animated quality to Dior’s simple silhouettes. The collection’s vibrant infusion of anthropomorphic cartoons exemplify wearable artwork.
