Disney+ Unveils All-Star Cast of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’

The upcoming Star Wars series will star Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master and will feature Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader.

Disney+ has finally revealed the primary cast of its much anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The “special event” show marks VMAN 46 cover star Ewan McGregor’s return as the titular character in the Star Wars universe, as well as Hayden Christensen’s return as Darth Vader.

The story will take place ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, the third installment in the cinematic prequel trilogy, which depicted the epic battle between Kenobi and his former Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who became Sith Lord Darth Vader. In the Star Wars timeline, those are part of Kenobi’s recluse years as Ben, when he watched out for a young Luke Skywalker from a distance.

Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie are also joining the cast. Edgerton and Piesse have previously played uncle Owen and aunt Beru in 2002’s Attack of the Clones – later becoming Luke’s adoptive parents in Revenge of the Sith

The new series is set to begin shooting in April and will be directed by Deborah Chow, who has already directed two episodes of the first season of the well-received Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

Star Wars fans have long demanded a Kenobi-centered production and for McGregor’s return as the legendary Jedi Master. For years, the actor has also been very open about wanting to reprise the iconic role and since Disney finally gave the project a green light it has been shrouded in secrecy (as usual).

“I’m thrilled to get to play Kenobi again,” McGregor told VMAN in an exclusive interview earlier this year. “It’s a story about him. That’s all I can say.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi will be available exclusively on Disney+, with a premiere date yet to be announced.
