Malia Obama is making her mark on the film industry, her latest project being part of the writers room for Donald Glover’s newest Amazon series. The aspiring screenwriter graduated from Harvard in 2021, where she was named a Thomas Temple Hoopes Prize winner for excellent undergraduate work and excellence in the art of teaching. Obama has held multiple gigs in the film industry, interning on the set of Halle Berry’s series Extant in 2014, assisting the writers on HBO’s Girls in 2015, and working with The Weinstein Company in 2017.

At 23-years-old, her latest endeavor as a writer for Glover’s newest Amazon series, potentially titled Hive, has been met with prominent praise from the director.

“She’s just like, an amazingly talented person,” Glover said in Los Angeles at the season three premiere of his FX show, Atlanta. “She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard. I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon.”

Glover, perhaps most well-known as rapper Childish Gambino, is executive producing the project in collaboration with his brother, Stephen Glover. The series reportedly follows a Beyonce-type character, and Obama has been hired to share her experiences on the matter.

“We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] president’s daughter,” Stephen told Vanity Fair. “She has a lot of good ideas. She’s great. She’s just a regular person like everybody else.”

The Emmy winner’s writing career began at 23 when we was hired by Tina Fey for 30 Rock. His projects—the most recent being Atlanta—melds comedy and drama, encouraging a changed view of Black Americans. Season three was just released last week following a four-year hiatus, with s fourth and final season already wrapped and set to premiere this fall.
