Drake and NOCTA Are Stepping Onto the Court

After announcing his sub-label with Nike in 2020, the rap superstar is going all in with a new basketball collection.

In December 2020, Drake and Nike announced their collaborative sublabel NOCTA. Named after the Champagne Papi’s “nocturnal creative process”, the brand was a first for the sportswear giant. Nike gave Drake his brand, similar to how they gave Michael Jordan the Jordan label. What made this brand an unprecedented move for Nike is the fact that Drake’s not an athlete, yet he’s the only other person to have his brand for Nike.

Drake’s desire to create functional, comfortable, and adaptable outfits made NOCTA what it is. The first collection took inspiration from outfits the rapper noticed in Toronto, Paris, and New York. Puffer jackets, sweatsuits, and other streetwear basics created the city vibe the rapper envisioned with the first collection. Now, NOCTA takes a different turn as they feed into the basketball heritage of Nike.

NOCTA Basketball focuses on the new generation of athletes. The new collection takes inspiration from the fashion of today’s athletes and transforms it into performance apparel for the court. From classic basketball necessities, like shorts and tees, to more streetwear-inspired pieces, like hoodies and hats, NOCTA Basketball ensures you’ll look your best when you’re playing your best.

The collection comes in a mainly black and white colorway, but certain pieces receive a colorful twist. For select items, such as tees and compression tights, a thermal image print adds color and an intriguing silhouette.

The new NOCTA Basketball collection launches on July 27. Prices range from $12 to $120 and will be sold on NOCTA’s and Nike’s websites. Customers can visit the basketball section of Nike’s website to register for updates ahead of the collection’s launch.
