If there's one word that could be used to describe DSquared2 leaders Dean and Dan Caten, it certainly wouldn't be 'subtle,' but if their FW18 show during Milan Fashion Week Men's is anything to go by, it may be 'dedicated.' The designer duo took major cues from the Wild West for their latest collection, fully committing to an authentic country aesthetic that's been en vogue since the reign of Raf Simons at Calvin Klein — not to mention recent album campaigns from the likes of Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake.

Bella Hadid opened the show in a chambray shirt and red plaid jacket with leather yokes, and the Western vibes didn't let up from there. Model cowboys and cowgirls alike took on the runway in classic multi-colored checks, embroidered cowboy boots, and rhinestones on everything — some country folks love their bling, after all. Trousers were transformed into both sleek business fits and elaborate works of art made for a rodeo. And of course, it wouldn't be Western wear without cowhide prints and appropriate amounts of leather fringe. Dean and Dan also incorporated some bohemian pieces into the mix, a surprisingly fitting compliment to the Southern vibes, leading to a flowing finale look from Kendall Jenner.

With their FW18 collection, Dean and Dan Caten not only manage to stay true to the DSquared2 mission, but also create a subtle narrative on heritage. The duo perfectly infuse their own extravagant flair into classic motifs and staple wardrobe pieces, making a case that nostalgic tributes can also be forward-thinking.
