Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and the rest of the Dune cast are together again as filming for Dune: Part Two begins. Director Denis Villeneuve shocked audiences last October with gifts of Paul Atreides and the fight for Arrakis between the Atreides’ and the Harkonnens.

For the second film, Villeneuve builds upon the storyline and further explores the relationship between Chalamet and Zendaya’s characters. Warner Bros. and Legendary write in the official synopsis that “This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides [Chalamet] as he unites with Chani [Zendaya]  and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

With a new story comes new cast members, and this list keeps getting better. Austin Butler has stolen hearts with his role in Elvis and now prepares to conquer space as Feyd Rautha for Dune: Part Two. Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, and Léa Seydoux join the cast as well.

Along with the original cast, Villeneuve keeps the crew from Dune the same. Greig Fraser, Jacqueline West, Donald Mowat, and other crew members prepare to tackle the intergalactic once again.

In an interview with Variety Villeneuve stressed the importance of working with the same crew. He said “The thing that helps us right now is that it’s the first time I’ve revisited a universe. I’m working with the same crew, everybody knows what to do, and we know what it will look like. The movie will be more challenging, but we know where we are stepping.”

The new film is set to be shot on location in Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan, and Italy. With filming already taking place, Warner Bros and Legendary have slated the release to be for November 17, 2023. Until then, fans can only hope for some sneak peeks into the new world of Dune.
