Ewan McGregor Goes Wild In New ‘Halston’ Trailer

The limited Netflix series about the rise and fall of the famed fashion designer premieres on May 14.

Cocaine-infused parties, breakdowns, and lots of great outfits: Netflix has just dropped the first official trailer for Halston, the upcoming limited series starring VMAN 46 cover star Ewan McGregor as the titular character. The show follows the rise and fall of the legendary fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick, known just by Halston, and his journey as he came to define an era of luxurious looks in the 1970s and ‘80s New York.

“I have a vision. I’m going to change the face of American fashion,” Halston says as he looks out of a dark office window to a dramatic rendition of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy The Silence.” The explicit video then alternates between clips of models, arguments, and, of course, lavish parties – Halston was a notable habitué of the iconic Studio 54, which is also featured in the series.

We also get to see David Pittu as fashion illustrator Joe Eula, and Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli, who says to Halston, “The one thing you don’t know how to do is stop.” Other cast members include Rebecca Dayan as Halston’s muse Elsa Peretti, Bill Pullman as David Mahoney, Gian Franco Rodriguez as Halston’s lover Victor Hugo, Sullivan Jones as Ed Austin, Rory Culkin as filmmaker Joel Schumacher, Kelly Bishop as Eleanor Lambert, and Vera Farmiga as Adele.

The show is executive produced by Ryan Murphy and Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, along with McGregor, series director Daniel Minahan, Ian Brennan, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, and Sharr White.

In an exclusive interview with VMAN earlier this year, McGregor detailed how the series and the character came to be. I started reading about him. [Minahan] sent me some articles and more photographs. I read everything. I started falling for Halston’s pictures, and I was like ‘who is this guy? Surrounded by all these Halstonettes. So grand,’ he said.

Even though he was a very difficult man, there was so much love for this guy. All of that started titillating me and my sort of creative imagination, thinking how interesting it would be to play him. To be able to flash from anger to the way he looked, the way he drew everyone in.
