Day-old watering hole Ray’s bills itself as the "diviest new dive bar” on the Lower East Side. But what the compact space, co-owned by actor Justin Theroux and serving everytown-USA ambiance, lacks in bathroom graffiti, it made up for in eclecticism last night. At its inaugural honky tonk, Ray’s proved that, like a well-worn Fender amp, the bar is deceptively plugged in, attracting the likes of artist Nate Lowman and reigning VMAN Mark Ronson

But don’t let the starpower or dim lighting blind you: The venue is backed by some of the most decorated restaurateurs south of 14th Street, including Jon Neidich (Acme, Tijuana Picnic), Taavo Somer (Freemans), and Carlos Quirarte (The Smile). Before grabbing a booth, wet your whistle with a peek inside the bar’s first big night out on LES—courtesy of a photo diary created by Justin Theroux.
