Life is a game in the world of SANTII. "WHAT?" is a newly released single off the Italian duo's forthcoming sophomore album, and if the track is at all revealing of the record as a whole, count us in. The group is made up of Michele Ducci and Alessandro Degli Angloli, the first-mentioned responsible for vocals and lyrics, and the latter behind production and visuals. Their latest song, "WHAT?" provides a buoyant, xylo-synth beat to Ducci's chill chanting, as featured rapper, W, enters with a verse. Mastered production, catchy vocals and a solid rap—What more could one ask of a song? Oh, wait, a visually stimulating music video reminiscent of your 90s upbringing? Yeah, SANTII has that too.

Logging into the duo's domain, you will see all of your Y2K fantasies realized. The music video opens with a scene all too familiar to a 90s kid: A screen that preceded our mobile ones, depicting the space shooter arcade game, Galaga. If you know, you know. These nostalgic calls to our video game past follow throughout, with scenes of Street Fighter and car-racing. Ducci and Angloli continue to summon these scenes of our past through VHS footage of the two, cut with pixeled frames and cheeky graphics.

“It’s multidimensional, a mix between fantasy, virtual, and reality," SANTII says of the video. Their aim was to create a personal connection between the viewers and them. Mixing their indescribable, futuristic sound with their signature, visual nostalgia, the two create a paradox that just hits the spot.
