Flashback Friday: The Best of Timothée Chalamet’s YouTube Career
Hollywood’s heartthrob is much more than just an actor, as his old YouTube rapping and dancing videos prove.
If you were to ask someone what their top 5 favorite Timothée Chalamet performances are, they might reel off a list of some of the actor’s most well-done performances from acclaimed projects: Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, The King, Beautiful Boy and Little Women, just to name a few.
But before the decade’s favorite heaven-chiseled young actor was part of any of these critically acclaimed projects, he had a few projects of his own. Tragically forgotten to time and buried under his plethora of accomplishments (including a 2018 Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead and a 2017 New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor in Call Me By Your Name) are an archive of old Timothée Chalamet videos from his YouTube golden days, from rapping under his high school moniker “Lil Timmy Tim” to showcasing his moves in a Soulja Boy dance video.
So fear not! While various streaming services can provide you with access to some of Timothée’s more recent and beloved performances, VMAN is giving you a compilation of some of his more indie, obscure projects. Here are 5 of our favorite Timothée Chalamet moments from long-lost YouTube videos.
1. The “Statistics” Rap by Lil Timmy Tim
A fan-favorite and cult classic, this rap by Timothée (or should we say, Lil Timmy Tim) goes hard. From his days at LaGuardia High School, it was used for his Statistics class (apparently, his teacher gave him a D+), and he even addressed it on The Ellen Show. It’s ya boy Lil Timmy Tim!
2. Timmy Tim in Rising Stars 2012
Oh, what we wouldn’t give to go back in time and be in the audience at one of a VERY limited number of live Lil Timmy Tim performances. A man of many talents, Timothée proves he’s just as much of a performer live as he is on camera. Bonus points for the costume changes and choreography!
3. A Kicker Boyz Dance
Perhaps the oldest Timothée performance on the books: a little dance number to “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” with a couple of buddies. To be fair, we’ve probably all attempted to learn this dance at one point or another in our lives, and the boys were pretty spot-on with the choreography. Dance scene in Call Me By Your Name who?
4. A Not-to-be-forgotten Onstage Dance
“Oh, and who made this beat?!” Actor, dancer, rapper and now emcee extraordinaire, Timothée busts out a few more moves on-stage in the back of this live performance. I mean, it’s no Soulja Boy…(kidding, we love it).
5. The Hell’s Kitchen Bed Rap by Lil Timmy Tim
Personally, I’ve watched this freestyle moment probably a few times too many, but it really is that good. Timmy is clearly a lyrical master, and his performance could rival some of the great rappers of 2020. Nicki, if you’re reading this, consider a feature on your next album maybe?
6. Bonus: Timothee’s Spoken Theater at the 2013 National YoungArts Week
Not a song or a dance, but a very striking (and more serious) performance by Timothée Chalamet nonetheless. His raw, spoken word acting here proves that even while he was making silly YouTube videos and being a math class deviant with his friends, he was born to be the acclaimed actor we all know and love now, and his talent goes way, way back.
