John Galliano's inaugural menswear collection for Maison Margiela presents a new riff on glamour through exaggerated proportions, street sensibility, and innovative tailoring. A bias-cut Yves Klein-blue suit creates a unique, fluid silhouette, while a traditional knit cardigan is reimagined in molded rubber. As Galliano explains, "Through the symbolic value of synergy, I wanted to propose a men's wardrobe that didn't just join together the fundamental codes of Maison Margiela with more recently introduced motifs., but captured a new approach to dressing in which questions of gender and heritage are transcended by the importance of self-expression, individuality, and diversity." Jolts of color and flashes of stark white lend an otherworldly quality. The collection also debuts the SMS (Security Margiela Sneaker), sure to be coveted by footwear obsessives. It's a bold new era for Margiela menswear.
