If Gabriela Hearst’s new menswear Fall Winter 2021 collection is anything to go by, then it’s going to be a pretty chilly few months come the end of the year. And that’s where the collection swoops in to bundle you up.

Inspired by José Gervasio Artigas, considered the father of Uruguayan independence, the collection draws from the gauchos of Uruguay, skilled horsemen who are revered as heroes in folklore and literature. As a result, it features several loose items that function as drapes, scarves, and shawls, similar to Clint Eastwood’s style in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Traditional fall colors like yellow, scarlet, dark navy, bottle green, and copper maintain precedence in the collection. The knits and cashmeres, in solids and plaid/checkered designs, bring some warmth to the look and feel of the clothes, along with some texture. It’s a collection that embodies the essence of a winter spent on the east coast: layering. Lots of layering. It’s a clean and simple line-up that emphasizes a ready-to-wear sensibility over the look.

The collection was captured in a series of images shot in the streets of Manhattan, a completely fitting place for these looks which serves to enhance the utilitarian aspect. A short teaser of the collection was also released, directed by Jim Dylan, showing it in its natural Manhattan element once again, against the bustling, snow-laden streets. Watch the video below:
