The Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns’ fight for the top prize at the NBA Finals has come to an end and the Bucks took home the coveted Larry O’Brien Trophy, which is exclusively made by Tiffany & Co. every year for the championship. 

Since 1978, the jewelry label has been responsible for crafting the trophy, which was originally called the National Basketball Association Championship Trophy and renamed in 1984 in honor of the former NBA Commissioner. The trophy is made from sterling silver with a gold finish and is designed to resemble a basketball net with a regulation-size basketball. It stands at 24.5 inches tall and weighs 16 pounds. 

The trophy was crafted over about six months by the Tiffany Makers team at Tiffany’s hollowware workshop in Forest Hill, Rhode Island. That’s where the label also crafts 64 other trophies for various competitions, including the US Open and the Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s Trophy. 

Each trophy features a “T & CO MAKERS” with a T-shaped hammer, nodding to Tiffany’s handcrafted metalworking heritage, along with a unique pattern number – a tradition carried from the jeweler’s earliest days of silver crafting.
