Inspired by the uncanny atmosphere of the works of Italian horror film director Dario Argento, Gucci presents their schoolboy-esque Pre Fall 2018 Collection. The line reinvents the “nightmarish catholic boarding school”, clad with embellished blazers and thick socks stuffed into brown loafers.

Gucci takes on the short-shorts trend that’s been plaguing the runway this fashion month, keeping in tune with the eerily cool schoolboy theme. The collection finds common ground between balanced silhouettes of framed suits and staple knitwear and more creative shapes, including an oversized leather jacket and electric printed leggings, blending them seamlessly through dimmed-down vibrants and overlapping patterns. The slim silhouettes give way for excessive layering, another common thread for the season. Gucci stays on par with an accessory-heavy line, including jewelry, baseball caps, and bags strapped every which way.

Despite the solemn tenor of the inspiration behind the looks, the brand ensures their continued residency within the “hypebeast” community with more laid back pieces, including graphic sweatshirts, and Gucci logo embellished sweatpants.  The collection also nods at Argento’s time period, the 1970s and 80s, with flared jeans, ascots, and the infamous bronzed yellow that framed the 70s.
