Hailing from Harlem, Dapper Dan has become a legendary name in fashion, known for designing street-luxe looks for celebrities and hip-hop stars in the '80s out of his boutique. But the style purveyor never necessarily got the credit that he's deserved, and courtesy of Gucci, that's about to change a little. Alessandro Michelle and Dapper Dan are joining forces to collaborate with one another, opening a new atelier shop that combines Gucci's classic motifs with the sleek street-style thinking that Dan has become known for.

“Everyone paid homage to Dapper Dan, but no one ever paid him,” said Dapper Dan in a statement. “The people have spoken and Gucci has listened. Nothing has been more significant in the Harlem cultural scene than Alessandro and Gucci coming to Harlem and partnering with Dapper Dan.”

The atelier comes 25 years after Dapper Dan's first boutique closed shop in 1992, and opens its doors not too far from its original home uptown on Lenox Avenue. The location will feature appointment-only visits where Dan will create one-of-a-kind items for clients, immersing them in a contemporary world fusing Gucci, Dapper Dan, and classic '80s style.

The atelier will offer garments made by Dapper Dan himself from Gucci fabrics, prints, and embroidery. In addition to this upcoming partnership, Dan will also release a capsule collection as part of Gucci's Fall 2018 campaign. He sets up shop beginning in January. See photos of the new space below.
