In a vivid, vibrant tribute to the cross-section between exploration and luxury, Gucci has produced a documentary video celebrating the spirited partnership between The North Face and Gucci in an ode to adventure paying homage to the iconic brands.

The North Face x Gucci collection dropped last December, complete with puffer jackets, boots, backpacks, graphic tees and more symbolically crafted and curated as practical, luxury items borne of the Italian fashion house and American outdoor brand. Now, artist Sean Vegezzi explores the dynamics of beauty and function that The North Face and Gucci have created, bringing the viewer to an outdoor, wild exploration of the Alps.

The documentary film is a look through the eyes of the creators behind the collaboration, seamlessly and beautifully merging the processes of design, production and release of the collection. Alessandro Michele, Creative Director of Gucci, is featured for conversation, as well as David Whetstone, The North Face Design Manager Global Collaborations, Archives and Special Projects.

Interspersed with fluid shots of the mountainous landscape and collection are behind-the-scenes insights from the team of designers, product developers and craftsmen who came together for the collaboration. 

Plus, whimsical images bringing context to the atmosphere of creation are brought into the documentary, showing location shots from the Dolomites to the Sierra Nevada, from the factories of creation to the growth and expansion of The North Face, which has become a cultural icon in the American landscape, dominating outdoor apparel with contributions from figures such as American professional rock climber Nina Williams and legendary graffiti artist Post AOW.

Vegezzi’s vision captures the otherworldly spirit of the natural outdoors, the affinity for nature, technicality and details that The North Face and Gucci bring together. The landscape in and of itself highlights the collection as it should be seen—in the world of hiking and mountaineering, as bold, eloquent design tools to experience the greatness of the outdoors, and in the words of Alessandro Michele, to find “the shamanic power to push you into different territories.”
