For its Pre-Fall 2020 collection, Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele looked to the past, bringing elements of the 1970s, ’80s, and ‘90s through the collection’s varied range of tailoring, outerwear, sportswear-indebted looks, and ready-to-wear menswear pieces.

Shot by the iconic street photographer Bruce Gilde, the new lookbook starts the enigmatic Italian singer Achille Lauro who has this unmistakably eclectic identity so fitting for Gucci. A nod to the house’s extravagance and eccentricity, the notable looks like a bronze pinstriped suit with interlocking GG branding all over, a grey pinstriped suit with a pair of power flare trousers or a green double-breasted suit pay homage to the brand’s past and its relevance in today’s fashion landscape. On a more contemporary note, the collection also a bold belted leopard-print jacket, vintage collegiate-styled pieces in the form of a GG-indebted sweater vest and a tracksuit complete with inspiration from the workwear movement thanks to its cargo-utility functions.

For accessories — the miniature around-the-neck bags featuring the iconic Horsebit motif along with squared-off cross body bags, plenty of hats and jewelry. The sneaker options are also present and prominent: a pair of bright yellow mesh runners doused in ’90s inspiration, as well as a black-and-green pair to showcase the silhouette’s mid-cut sports-inspired shape.
