Helmut Newton. Legacy Debuts Work for 101st Birthday

After being postponed due to the pandemic, the exhibit will finally be taking place.

Helmut Newton, the late photographer whose career spanned five decades, would have celebrated his 100th birthday on October 31, 2020. To commemorate the day, HELMUT NEWTON. LEGACY,  a retrospective exhibition featuring Helmut Newton’s iconic images, was intended to be held. Postponed due to the pandemic, the exhibit will finally be taking place, opening its doors at the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin at the end of October.

HELMUT NEWTON. LEGACY chronologically traces Newton’s life and visual legacy, and includes 300 of his works – half of which have never been seen before by the public. The works are accompanied by Polaroids and contact sheets that provide insight into the photographer’s creative process. Newton’s more unconventional work, reflecting changing times, will also be featured. 

 

One room in the Helmut Newton Foundation, June’s Room, will feature work by June Newton, also known as Alice Springs, while the retrospective is open.

Opening day for HELMUT NEWTON. LEGACY is Sunday, October 31st, running from 11 am – 7 pm. The exhibit will remain open until May 22, 2022. A catalogue by the same name as the exhibit, edited by foundation curator Matthias Harder, is also available through TASCHEN publishing house
