Help Smokey the Bear End Wildfires

The new PHIPPS x Smokey the Bear collaboration aims to curb the spread of wildfires.

Sustainable designer Spencer Phipps responded to the West Coast wildfires by collaborating with the iconic educator Smokey the Bear.

PHIPPS previewed the wildfire prevention collection in their Autumn-Winter 2020 show, but items are now available through SSENSE and Mytheresa. Pieces in the collection include cardigans, sweaters, corduroy pants and button-up long sleeves.

Ten percent of sales from the collection will go towards the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Services which has embraced Smokey’s influence since 1944. The Smokey program helps educate the American public on wildfires as it is one of the most critical issues affecting the world, according to the USDA.

Smokey the Bear is imprinted onto multiple items in the collection, including a tan sweater. The “It’s a Grand Old Forest, Too!” slogan is printed top of Smokey’s vintage and authentic looking figure.

Standing out in the collection is a cardigan that embraces country feels. The words “You Only” are repeatedly printed on top of Smokey’s head and tree figurines. A zipper and hood make this piece extra snug.

One of the few pieces in the collection to not feature Smokey is a button down collared shirt. In place of Smokey are countless trees of different shapes and sizes scattered on the front and back of the plaid design.
