The Issey Miyake store located in Milan, Italy presents a project during Milan Design Week where it works with designers, artists, and/or other creative professionals alike to celebrate creativity, to spark a sense of joy and wonder that is universal to people across cultures.

The project titled, “In the Making”, draws the focus onto the design and making of the Issey Miyake brands, starting with IM MEN and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE, and how their creative processes are compared to that of designing a product.

Function is at the core of what Issey Miyake is. Looking within the company, the design and making practices at the Issey Miyake brands explore beyond expressions of form-making; they engage with creating garments that reflect the wearers’ lifestyles, by developing original materials and revisiting the creative process itself step by step. 

“In the Making” introduces the latest products of IM MEN and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE as well as that of other ISSEY MIYAKE brands, curated in line with the special exhibition.

For the exhibition, IM MEN and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE collaborated with Italian entrepreneur and art director, Fabio Bellotti, and made garments inspired by his paintings. Bellotti is no stranger to the brand, he’s worked with Issey Miyake since the 1970s and provided printed fabrics for many of its collections. 

“In the Making” is on display between September 5-19, 2021, at the brand’s flagship Milan store, so if you’re in Milan make sure to stop by!
